1:00 PM - 4:00 PMHar ShalomOpen to the entire Har Shalom community of members and friends of all ages, this event will be a place for both the Chevra Kadisha and those curious about it to gather for burial shroud preparation and sewing and for open conversation about all that the Chevra does. If you'd like to learn more about what a tahara looks like or learn a new simple sewing skill at any age, this event aims to enrich your connections, knowledge, and community.
Registrations are appreciated. If you have one available to you, please consider bringing your sewing machine from home.
Whether you are able to attend or not, we hope you'll participate in the Chevra Kadisha 50th Anniversary project for Har Shalom. Our goal is to have at least 50 submissions of reflections, experiences, and thoughts on the holy work done by the Chevra Kadisha. You're invited to either create your own to drop off at Har Shalom for display or submit your response in the notes section below. Submissions can include names or ask to remain anonymous when displayed. Here are a few prompts to get you started if interested:
- What does Chevra Kadisha and tahara mean to you?
- Do you have a favorite ritual, tradition, or personal practice related to Chevra Kadisha?
- Can you share a moment that deeply moved you in this work?
- What is something you have learned from being part of a Chevra Kadisha?
- What piece of advice would you give to someone new to this sacred role?
- How has this work shaped your understanding of community, life, or death?
- Is there a prayer, teaching, or piece of wisdom that resonates with you?
